Day-long bird fair held at Jahangirnagar University

BSS, Savar, March 4 : Hundreds of bird-loving people thronged the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus to spend for sometime in the twittering of birds, breath in the fresh air and to relieve the monotony of every day life on the occasion of day-long bird fair today.

Vice-chancellor of JU Prof. Khondoker Mustahedur Rahman inaugurated the programme jointly organised by the department of Zoology of JU and Jugantor Sajan Sabha with a view to create awareness about nature as well as wildlife.

Nature study and conservative club, Prothom Alo Bandhu Sabha, Bangladesh Birds Club. JU Students’ Welfare Consultation Centre also supported the fair.

The day’s programme included inter-university bird identification competition, decoration of stalls, speech competition, bird painting competition for children, seminar on bird and watching migratory birds by telescope.

In the competition JU became the champion while Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University turned out as runners up. Mursalin Habib and Nazia Nur were received first and second prize respectively in the bird painting competition.

Awards were given to two eminent bird experts Prof. Kazi Zaker Hossain and Prof. Anwarul Islam for their outstanding research on birds.

A noted bird expert Enam-al-Huq was also received award for his contribution in raising awareness about birds while JU vice-chancellor Prof. Khondoker Mustahedur Rahman has been awarded for conservation of birds at the university. Editor of the daily Jugantor ABM Musa distributed prizes among the winners.
