Insect proteins used to fight malaria

The scientific onslaught on malaria takes another step forward today with the identification of four insect proteins that affect the ability of the malaria parasite to survive and develop in the carrier mosquitos. Researchers at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg say their findings, published in the journals Cell and Science, could provide a new way to block the transmission of the plasmodium parasite from anopheles mosquitoes to people.
